Blogging While Broke & 3 Ways to Totally Kill It!

Wednesday, November 08, 2017

A throwback popped up on my playlist,  Nappy Roots "Po Folks".  Simultaneously, I began crying and laughing as I was overwhelmed with a sense of gratefulness.  The song actually put a few things into perspective.   Despite my blog not being where I would like, I was able to accomplish so much all while being...Broke!

Enjoy! xx

I. Set Goals & Crush Them

Your dreams are never on hold.  Even if you're thinking about what you want to do, you're still working on them!  Keep that in mind the next time you find yourself talking yourself out of chasing your dreams.  For now, think about your ultimate goal and the small steps you can take to propel forward.

Though your bank account doesn't have as many M's as 21 Savage indicates, I'm sure your mind has just as many ideas.  But as my grandmother always say, "A Fist Full is A Fist Plenty".  In other words,  focus on what you can handle in that moment.  For me, I wanted to build my presence as a style blogger on all social media platforms.  However, juggling multiple accounts became a hassle.  But my setting achievable goals that I could personally witness growth I was able to have a microscopic moment as great as Cardi B.

Think About:  What your life's purpose, mission, and/or passion is.. And then...
  • Organize your thoughts and Eliminate (if necessary)- Create a visual such as a vision board to give you a clearer scope of the things you want to do.
  • Narrow your Goals down to One Specific Goal- Choose something from that visual that stands out the most and make it your target/focus/tunnel vision.
  • Separate your Goal into SubTypes- think of what small investments you can make to ensure your goal is achieve.
  • Set Deadlines- keep track of where you're going and what you've done by giving yourself deadlines.
  • Don't Give Up- Remind your self why you wanted to do this in the first place and use your frustrations as fuel!

II. Set a Budget & Be Stingy

Whether you want to Ball on a Budget or be Chic while Cheap, you must first understand that there are ways to achieve your goals even on a tight budget.  As pitiful as my bank account is, it doesn't mean that I have to be. With that said, embrace your boundaries.  Anything you feel can keep you back, look at it as an opportunity to challenge yourself to find a creative or  an alternative way. This may mean being okay with not being able to do everything you want right then and there.  Alternatively, it may mean doing everything on your list and learning along to the way.

Think About:  What you want to do to help you with your goals... And Then..

  • Be Patient- Don't leap at the first opportunity as there may be a better one waiting.
  • Invest Wisely- Whether it's money, time or resources, make a wise chose and invest.
  • Budget-Don't feel pressured into spending so alot of money.  Take advantage of promotions and deals and create a budget and maintain it!
  • Research- Extensively search for all the information you need, for alternative ways to plan ahead.
  • Connect- Network with people who have the same goals as you.  Find ways to collab and contribute that would be beneficial for both you and the other party.

III. Make Mistakes & Get Over It

One of my absolute favorite quotes is to, "Fail Often to Succeed Sooner".  And this is something I've learned to value.  When I first started blogging, I had no idea what I was doing and to top it all off, I was broke.  I was running off of instinct, until I came across sites such as BlogLovin and Chictopia. I was inspired by bloggers who found a way to make it work.

You're not going to get it right the first time around.  Trial and Error is key.  But don't look at your failures for what it is.  Instead, realize that you're experimenting.  Be sure to not measured your level of success based on the achievements of those who you admire. And don't set your expectations based on those factors either.

Money is great, but your dreams are priceless!  Soooooo what are you waiting for? Set Your Goals, Create a Budget and Take a Chance... or as Ms Frizzle (from the Magic School Bus) would said "Take Chances, Make Mistakes and Get Messssssssy!!!
