Okay, not like gossip real but real enough to motivate you as a blogger so that you will know that your journey in blogging is no mistake and completely worth it.  UnStyled will be a platform for you to tell your story, all while empowering one another.  UnStyled is Unfiltered, Unaltered and Unplugged.  Here we will laugh, cry and even learn... but most importantly we're doing it all TOGETHER!

As a child, adults asked the question, "Who do you want to be when you grow up"?  And it never failed that each year I wanted to be someone new.  Even during my undergrad years, I wondered where my life would take me and who would I become.  While I set expectations of who I thought I would be, never had I imagined I would be here.

After a recent visit to the costume store, I had the hardest time deciding who I could be for Halloween.  However, I was inspired.  So in the spirit of Halloween, I spent three days pretending to be someone else and here's what happened:



Becoming Brenan is what I called my journey on day two.  With Atlanta's slower pace, it was a great transition to tranquility.  Or so I thought.  I'm used to being on edge and I found myself struggling to fully relax.  In fact, my frustration grew during my attempt to encompass a Type B personality.  I'm passive aggressive at times, so keeping my mouth closed was epidemic for disaster.

However, after I decided to go take my time and experience the day, I discovered how much of the details I've been missing in life.  The best way I can explain is how it once described to me:

"Things from above look completely different from below, that even birds take a break from soaring to rest for a better view"  And for once in my life, I enjoyed the flavors of my food (yes I eat fast), I was able to find hidden treasures all because I decided to walk instead of run (hypothetically speaking).



I honestly didn't even know there was another personality type, but apparently the third is creepy (in my opinion).  And for 2.8 seconds I became Constance.  As it was the weekend, it was time to thoroughly clean my house.  I found myself becoming obsessed with the slightest details.  I turned my phone on silent to prevent any interruptions.  What's crazy was that I began secluding myself from those around me to focus on my work.  My friends assumed I was angry at them. My guy even gave me that "girl you're tripping" look.



Becoming everyone else but me, made an unexpected impact. I grew more aware of who I am and who I want to be.  Naturally, people pay attention to behaviors and seeing how those around me could sense a change--- was fascinating.

Despite the general personality types.  There's no type like YOU.  Like our finger prints, it's our individuality that separates us.  What better person to show off than, YOU?

My grandmother once said "It's okay to be UGLY-- Unique, Gifted, Living, You".  I laughed but it totally makes sense.  Standards are set but it doesn't mean you have to squeeze into that category.  Be that "other" as long as you stay true to you.

I challenge you to find a way to show off who you are inside in your style as we kick off UnStyled November 1!!!

After having about three midlife crises, I made up in my mind that I needed to cut the bullsh** and be great.  But I couldn't do it on my own.  I needed inspiration.  Apparently my own pep talk is never effective, so I needed confirmation. But how?  I searched blogs for insight, Instagram for inspiration and even flipped through my old posts for a reminder that I'm DOPE.  But it wasn't enough and instead I remembered, I failed.

So a whole 45 minutes of an epic Brit Fit later (I literally cried snot), I had exhausted all motivation in an instant. So of course I resorted to what I knew best: BINGE EATING!!! Now and Later Candy + Cosmopolitan Magazine = Lifeeeeee.  And gratefully, my oral fixations finally paid off and not with cavities.  Before I knew it, I was one click away from experiencing the most life changing moment in my entire life!


*Inhales New York's filthy air* - Finally, back to the place I loved most:  NEW YORK CITY!!!

I lost more than directions in NY.  I lost my Cosmo-Ginity by attending Cosmopolitan Magazine's Let's Talk About It event.  This event essentially addressed topics that society somehow thinks women should be silent about.  Andddd, Let's Talk About It was an eventful all day experience that encouraged us to do something about it! It was time to "speak up, get real, and live our happiest life".

And there I was, in a room filled with strangers who shared my passions, my issues and my desires. Talk about an Unfiltered, Shameless and Guilt Free zone. I felt free AF.  I don't know if it was the meditation or the cocktails, but I literally wanted to take off my shirt and embrace this new found vulnerability. It was as if, time itself stopped long enough, just so I may linger in this perfect moment.

Words can't really describe what happened.  So I'll save the spill and instead, leave you with what parts of me, that surfaced within those 8 hours.

1. I'm Not Perfect.  And I'll never be.  But that fear of revealing my imperfections should never stop my persistence.
2. I'm a Bad Bihhh.  I may not be who society deems as Instagram Gorgeous, but my inner beauty is one sexy attention grabber. 
3. I'm my Own Goal.  Instead of indulging in the standards of unrealistic expectations, I should push beyond my potential to be my best version of ME!

But....I didn't leave Cosmopolitan the same person that walked in.  In fact, I left knowing that my voice, no matter how still, how small or different; it was equipped with the biggest superpower. And, I can't keep being silent out of fear.  It's time to turn the mic loud, grab your attention, and allow my words to give you the biggest brain-gasm of your life.

Believe it or not, there is a part of me that is insecure.  I'm also quite shy.  Some may disagree, as I tend to talk the head off of a fly, but it's true.  The cool thing is that I'm not afraid to admit it, but on the contrary it still exists.

So let's talk about insecurities:

As a child, I was a bit reckless lol.  As a result, I ended up with a busted lip, after a small accident. The doctors proclaimed that my lips would be normal after surgery. But I have a small "bump", where the operation was performed.  I was teased a bit and in fact created the habit of biting or hiding my lip when close to someone.  It may seem minor, but it's one of my insecurities.

Recently, while getting lost in New York, my Uber driver and I were talking about my passions and goals.  Upon our discussion, I was inspired to find a way to embrace my insecurities.  I know, I know, how could a 18 minute ride, become so inspirational?

Here's how:

No matter who you are, there is something about yourself that you may not like, or that you feel that you aren't confident about.  Usually, we try and hide our "flaws".  We vocally talk about how we embrace them, but don't necessarily show it.

With that being said, I was inspired to embrace my insecurities by projecting my beauty in a way that will influence me to remove my mask of embarrassment.  But how?

I've never really had a sweet tooth until I met "Him".  Though the cavities in my mouth may say otherwise ( I love cupcakes), I've never really had to curb my appetite until I met "Him".  Every time I thought about Him, "Chocolate High by India Arie" would play in my head.  It's funny 'cause he was far from Chocolate but definitely from the Mother Land.  Not only did his accented words move me but he was fluent in French.  He probably cursed me out a few times in French, I wouldn't know, I can barely speak English ha ha.  But it was just something about he that was so mesmerizing until....

Waves.. Hi I'm Brittany.  And I'm Sexless.  I wanted to introduce the series starting with myself to give you an idea of how this will go and to hopefully open the door for others to share their opinions.

Besides finding a park in DC, one of the hardest things to endure is DATING. Who would have thought that finding a man would be as hard as finding Waldo on a sheet of paper.   And the sad thing is that they're everywhere.  No matter where you turn there's every species of every type of man you could ever imagine (Drools)

..Wait...Probably not your MCM type of guy but definitely someone hashtag worthy, even if like Welven ha ha (Got Em).  However, despite so many options, unfortunately there's a billion dehydrated ratchets after them. And vice versa for men.

Sooooo what happens when you meet that one person you weren't looking for but happened to find? He or She is all you've ever dreamed of but there's just one problem. He or She is NOT HAVING SEX!! (Slams on Brakes) Wait what?  Are you kidding me???  Well that seems to be what guys think of me.  They see a pretty face and is taken away by my personality until I tell them I'm waiting for marriage for sex. ( I've deleted 100's of guys out of my phone now that I think of it lol )

Sheesh.... But so what!!!  Why is it an issue?  If you can't wait, then you're not him.  What about those as myself who want more than a just good time?  After all, we're more than a wink and two drinks. Too often people just want to Yo Gotti us when in all actuality the only thing going down in my DM is me blocking you. lol... In any event there are women and men out there as myself who are willing to wait.  But for how long?  And at what cost?  Is is worth it?   Hmmm....


Despite what you think, I'm not alone.  And SEXLESS & STUCK DATING IN DC is a new series that will explore the avenues of dating along with men and women who've made the choice to wait.
