When I have no idea what to wear, I usually grab a blazer.   A blazer is the only piece in my wardrobe that I know is stylish for any occasion and suitable for any season.  This why it's the ultimate staple! 

Think about it!  What clothing item, you know can be paired with all of your wardrobe favorites.  I'll Wait!  Not only that but can dress any outfit up or down?... I'll Wait!

With the seasons changing, it's no surprise that a blazer is the first item of choice to transition between seasons.   

And I've found the perfect blazer to wear all Fall 2020! Here's Why!

1. It's Versatile 

One of my current Fall Fashion Goals, is to incorporate more texture and warmth to my Fall wardrobe. However, keeping up with seasonal trends can be frustrating.  It was important that I implement pieces that were trendy but not necessarily trending.  This Tan Satin Express Blazer was the solution to my dilemma. 

I could just about where this blazer anywhere.  Paired with a graphic tee, leather pants and pumps and I'm ready for a night out with the ladies.  Thrown over the shoulder of my favorite little black dress, and my man will fall in love all over again.

I usually run in the opposite direction of seasonal trends but Neutrals are in this season and I'm obsessed with this tan color.  It's satin texture makes it fashion forward and definitely steps away from the traditional "paper bag" looking blazer.

It's an oversized boyfriend fit so if you like a little extra coverage, the length provides it.  Though it does become wrinkled over time, I love that it adds a little character to my fit.  

3.  Comfortable

That beauty is pain statement is plain gibberish.  I refuse to compromise comfort to be cute.  This blazer offers the flexibility needed to be cute and feel good while wearing it.  I wore this blazer for 12 hours straight while running errands, socializing (from a distance) and not to mention while kicking it on the couch.  

So, whether you're meeting that Tinder date for the first time or preparing for an above the shoulder Zoom meeting, then you need this blazer- ha ha.

A really quiet voice said "young lady, you're so beautiful".  I turned around to find an older man, slumped over his cane.  Despite sweating enough water to feed the sea, I fought the urge to complain and politely answered, "Aww Thanks".

I wasn't sure if my face read "I don't believe you" or because I legit felt I was two seconds from a heat stroke, but he reiterated "No, seriously you're beautiful because you took a moment to smile".

He indicated that Smiling doesn't cost a thing but it's worth more than money can buy.  He encouraged me to keep smiling because I never know who made need it.

With that said, I was captivated at how something as small as a smile could make such an impact.  I often grow frustrated trying to figure out an outfit or a caption.  Insomuch, I get lost in my goal.

As The Stylish Ego, it is my goal to empower women to take control of their insecurities.  By implementing Style tips into their daily routine, it is my prayer that women walk away feeling confident about who they are and not to worry about how they look.

This moment reminded me of my very purpose and I hope it inspire you to be your own goals.  Find inspiration in yourself and realize that you have the ability to make an impact that could potentially change lives.

ANSWER: I absolutely adore the Shea Moisture brand.  I literally stalk their social media platforms and website daily.  Whether for inspiration or information, Shea Moisture is a brand that I trust will deliver information that I'm looking for. And when they announced it on Instagram, I took my chance.

TIP 101: Be the ULTIMATE FAN!!! Follow your favorite brand on all social networks.  Brands typically give exclusive insight/deals to their loyal fans! Occasionally, tag brands in your posts and even engage with brands' posts/content.


ANSWER:  My submission required that I submit a video that was 30 seconds or less.  In my video, I expressed the reasons why I love Shea Moisture and why I would like to be a Sheabassador.

TIP 101:  Be Yourself!!! You don't know if you'll get it, if you don't seek out the opportunity.  I was sick and didn't think I would have a chance, but I did it anyway!

III.  What's Next?!

Wakanda Forever Everyone!

Let me tell you how uplifted I'm feeling right now man.  I can't even put to words how I feel.  Everyone is talking about the movie, Black Panther, featuring my bae, Michael B. Jordan. (sigh, I wish).  I decided to not do a typical review, but instead express my current emotions about how I left the moving feeling.

It's not everyday you leave a movie theater feeling like royalty.  But Black Panther did!

Now this post will be real short because it's late and I'm just overexcited.  I'm sure I'll do a revised version of this so for now, get ready to be empowered in 3...2...1...

• BLACK IS BEAUTIFULLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

I've always known this but for once a movie featuring milk chocolate melanin was the most beautiful sight I've ever seen.  I saw myself.  Which is rare, as most women of color that are featured in movies are women of a lighter or mixed complexion.  To be able to identify myself with royalty, made me proud to be black.  And I'm mean proud to be BLACCCCCKKKKKKKKKK black.

• WOMEN ARE STRONGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

As a woman, I'm often faced with the idea that because I"m a woman that I'm weak or naive. *rolls eyes*  There of course are sooo many examples of strong and powerful women.  But Black Panther present black women as powerful. Women were presented as the source of intelligence.  Women fought for their beliefs side to side with men.  They were the protectors and nurturers. Reminds me of how in the bible, we are consider help meet's.  Not because we are the weaker vessel but because we are strong.   

Man, I can go on and on and on and on... but though Black Panther focus is concerning the Black Panther, it was the role the beautiful black women portrayed that  has me cloud nine!

Hey guys!! This past weekend I celebrated my 29th birthday at New York Fashion Week!  While NYFW has become a part of my normal biannual routine, each time I attend, I experience and learn something new.

NYFW is one of the largest fashion parties anyone could attend.  Whether you rock the front row like the elite, or work behind the scenes with street style; NYFW is where inspiration comes to life.

As a blogger, usually NYFW means:

• Waking up mad early to frantically look for something to wear.
• Waiting years to enter a show to only sit seconds until you're back out the door.
• Eating a granola bar to hold you over while posing for a pic to put on IG.

Last NYFW, I experienced fashion week a little differently. I documented my experience as attending UNINVITED.  I was so impressed at how much I enjoyed myself that since it was my birthday, I decided to break a few rules.  And here's what I did:

1.  Avoided Social Media

I knowwwwwwwwwwwww, you're probably wondering "is she crazy"?  Maybe I am.  But hear me out!  Usually, I live to capture every moment I experience.  I'm glued to my Instagram like my skin is to my bones.  But I've found that I usually miss out on important moments due being distracted by the posts I'm thinking of a caption for or gazing to see the amount of likes I received. 

Lately, I've been in a real funk.  I literally wake up to same routine.  Today during brunch I was asked "So how is your blog coming along?".  I thought to myself and asked myself the same thing.

Unfortunately, I made every excuse about why I wasn't posting instead of being honest.  The more I shared my ideas and the things that were getting in the way, I didn't realize how much my face was telling on me.  And then it happened, my friend yelled:

"BRITTANY, You're Stressed Out!!"


Of course I didn't want to admit it, but I came across this book called "Undress Your Stress" by Lois B Levy.


Undress Your Stress is one of those carry with you on the go books.  It's a really neat self help book that help you find ways to take a lot of things that triggers stress, off of our shoulders.

As you all are aware, my blog focuses primarily on Psychology and Fashion.  So after reading a few pages, I thought to myself "hmmm how could I help myself become stress free".

Everyone at one point talks about how they need "Retail Therapy".  I literally make an excuse to shop daily lol  So I figured, "What if I use something that I enjoy most to alleviate my frustrations that would turn into stress.

Of course my pockets are mad empty, so shopping until I drop isn't the best option.  However, each daily I struggle with trying to figure out what to wear lol.  Usually, my frustrations occur either if I'm running late for work, at work and ready to go or just because I'm mad at the world lol.

So this week, i think it's time to come up with an adventure that would help manage my emotions while having fun.  And I would love for you to join me!

I'll give it a month to test out.  And when we connect, I'll share my findings!

As a child, adults asked the question, "Who do you want to be when you grow up"?  And it never failed that each year I wanted to be someone new.  Even during my undergrad years, I wondered where my life would take me and who would I become.  While I set expectations of who I thought I would be, never had I imagined I would be here.

After a recent visit to the costume store, I had the hardest time deciding who I could be for Halloween.  However, I was inspired.  So in the spirit of Halloween, I spent three days pretending to be someone else and here's what happened:



Becoming Brenan is what I called my journey on day two.  With Atlanta's slower pace, it was a great transition to tranquility.  Or so I thought.  I'm used to being on edge and I found myself struggling to fully relax.  In fact, my frustration grew during my attempt to encompass a Type B personality.  I'm passive aggressive at times, so keeping my mouth closed was epidemic for disaster.

However, after I decided to go take my time and experience the day, I discovered how much of the details I've been missing in life.  The best way I can explain is how it once described to me:

"Things from above look completely different from below, that even birds take a break from soaring to rest for a better view"  And for once in my life, I enjoyed the flavors of my food (yes I eat fast), I was able to find hidden treasures all because I decided to walk instead of run (hypothetically speaking).



I honestly didn't even know there was another personality type, but apparently the third is creepy (in my opinion).  And for 2.8 seconds I became Constance.  As it was the weekend, it was time to thoroughly clean my house.  I found myself becoming obsessed with the slightest details.  I turned my phone on silent to prevent any interruptions.  What's crazy was that I began secluding myself from those around me to focus on my work.  My friends assumed I was angry at them. My guy even gave me that "girl you're tripping" look.



Becoming everyone else but me, made an unexpected impact. I grew more aware of who I am and who I want to be.  Naturally, people pay attention to behaviors and seeing how those around me could sense a change--- was fascinating.

Despite the general personality types.  There's no type like YOU.  Like our finger prints, it's our individuality that separates us.  What better person to show off than, YOU?

My grandmother once said "It's okay to be UGLY-- Unique, Gifted, Living, You".  I laughed but it totally makes sense.  Standards are set but it doesn't mean you have to squeeze into that category.  Be that "other" as long as you stay true to you.

I challenge you to find a way to show off who you are inside in your style as we kick off UnStyled November 1!!!

Oh boy it's Friday the 13th and everyone's superstitious radar is losing control.  I stepped on about  two and half cracks, broke my mini mirror and the side eye action I'm receiving is ridiculously overrated. Unless you believe in bad luck, for me it's not real.  So today's post is inspired by ideas that hold false beliefs concerning fashion.


Black gives the illusion that it conceals. But it doesn't remove who you are.  If you were to wear the exact same style of dress in three different colors--Black, White and Plum, look at your shadow and your shape doesn't change. It is common for people to choose black to avoid criticism due insecurities. Black is beautiful.  It's simple, build-able and matches with anything (yessss anything). Find a "Style" that enhances your natural assets. Like my dress above?  Purchase HERE.  I embrace the simplicity that a  monochromatic wardrobe brings.  However, don't depend on the color black to hide your beauty.



There's something about the way heels transform how I feel.  My confidence literally hits the roof.  Sexy isn't the word, I feel empowered.  Unfortunately, my clumsiness doesn't allow me the freedom to successfully create my own runway when I walk.  No matter who you are, no matter your size, shape, form; there's no set standard as to whether or not you should wear heels.  Check out April I'Jay as she shows us just how to rock heels without limitations!  In fact, I dare you to rock a pair of heels you were too shy to wear.  Watch how people stand in awe at your beauty!



I was a lowercase A for the longest, so when these Double D's made their grand entrance, I thought my wardrobe would be over.  Who knew creating a cleavage would be so much easy ha ha.  The truth of matter is, with the right bra, no matter the size of your twinsies, you can rock any style of top.  My tip is not shopping my actual size.  My body is some what of a medium.  When I shop tops, I search for the kind of "Look" I want, now the "Size" I'm assigned.  I recommend, going into the store with the same top in 3 different sizes, you will be utterly surprised which one you walk out loving!



With each season, there's some sort of inspiration.  The Soft Pastels of Spring, the Warm Hues of Summer, the Cool Browns of Fall and the Deep Cozy Layers of Winter. Buttttt when did we announced that we were limited to wearing this colors for specific seasons?! I'll Wait... I have my favorites that I love to transition from one season to next.  Even if one may feel that my bright pink shirt is excessive for Fall, I may add a natural color top to tone it down.  However, though each season inspires a trend, it doesn't mean you have to follow it.  Find ways to incorporate your wardrobe with something new and "In Trend".  That way at the end of the day, no one can say you're not trending.



Fashion is simply a tool to create your own personal style.  When you go to the grocery store, you purchase specific ingredients to create a dish that caters to your tastes.  Fashion is no different.  Fashion is Color.  Fashion is Texture.  Fashion is Pattern.  And however you mix and match is completely up to you!!! There's no set rules in the realm of personal style.  Though there are set limitations (such as work and required uniform).

But when it shouldn't when it comes to you!!

• Use event search engines such as, EventBrite to find events nearby.   
• Want to see what other NYFW attendees are doing?  Follow theme specific Hashtags, such as #NYFW, #THINGSTODOINNY or #NYEATS on Instagram.
•  Research!! Search Google or check out local sites dedicated to NY events such as          NYCPlugged!
• If all else fails, JUST ASK ha ha. No seriously, ask bloggers, locals, friends!

After having about three midlife crises, I made up in my mind that I needed to cut the bullsh** and be great.  But I couldn't do it on my own.  I needed inspiration.  Apparently my own pep talk is never effective, so I needed confirmation. But how?  I searched blogs for insight, Instagram for inspiration and even flipped through my old posts for a reminder that I'm DOPE.  But it wasn't enough and instead I remembered, I failed.

So a whole 45 minutes of an epic Brit Fit later (I literally cried snot), I had exhausted all motivation in an instant. So of course I resorted to what I knew best: BINGE EATING!!! Now and Later Candy + Cosmopolitan Magazine = Lifeeeeee.  And gratefully, my oral fixations finally paid off and not with cavities.  Before I knew it, I was one click away from experiencing the most life changing moment in my entire life!


*Inhales New York's filthy air* - Finally, back to the place I loved most:  NEW YORK CITY!!!

I lost more than directions in NY.  I lost my Cosmo-Ginity by attending Cosmopolitan Magazine's Let's Talk About It event.  This event essentially addressed topics that society somehow thinks women should be silent about.  Andddd, Let's Talk About It was an eventful all day experience that encouraged us to do something about it! It was time to "speak up, get real, and live our happiest life".

And there I was, in a room filled with strangers who shared my passions, my issues and my desires. Talk about an Unfiltered, Shameless and Guilt Free zone. I felt free AF.  I don't know if it was the meditation or the cocktails, but I literally wanted to take off my shirt and embrace this new found vulnerability. It was as if, time itself stopped long enough, just so I may linger in this perfect moment.

Words can't really describe what happened.  So I'll save the spill and instead, leave you with what parts of me, that surfaced within those 8 hours.

1. I'm Not Perfect.  And I'll never be.  But that fear of revealing my imperfections should never stop my persistence.
2. I'm a Bad Bihhh.  I may not be who society deems as Instagram Gorgeous, but my inner beauty is one sexy attention grabber. 
3. I'm my Own Goal.  Instead of indulging in the standards of unrealistic expectations, I should push beyond my potential to be my best version of ME!

But....I didn't leave Cosmopolitan the same person that walked in.  In fact, I left knowing that my voice, no matter how still, how small or different; it was equipped with the biggest superpower. And, I can't keep being silent out of fear.  It's time to turn the mic loud, grab your attention, and allow my words to give you the biggest brain-gasm of your life.

Well hello 2017 and Hello Egos!  Cheers to freaking weekend, I'll drink to that, well I'm sipping on hot cocoa while giving the side eye to the pile of snow that decided to ruin my day (but you get my point ha ha).  As I watch The Devil Wears Prada, I can't help but feel for the poor assistant, Andrea "Andy". In fact, that Cruella Deville of a boss, Miranda is exactly how 2016 treated me.

2016 started off optimistic, I was living my dreams of fashion blogging.  Attending fashion shows, mix and mingling with fashion king and queens and even getting lost in the streets of New York as I searched for my dream job.  But with every attempt, some how all of that went out the window.  And boy did those punches hurt.  I'll spare the details but ultimately 2016 left me unhappy with blogging.

2016 taught me that it's okay to not set expectations and that life despite not going how you imagine, happens for a reason.  So for 2017 I'm not setting any goals. No resolutions.  No wishlist. Nada. Nothing. Nope. And as crazy as it sounds, I need to find that happiness I once craved.  And though, it may not be found in clothes and beauty.  I think living life care free will work for me!  What you think? While all Summer styles reflected chic ways to BEAT THE HEAT, we enter into a dimension to finally COOL OFF.  But who really want to let Summer go?  From head to toe, Summer inspired us to rock everything from bright colors to fringe and frills.  Despite being barely naked, there are a few Summer remnants to rock this Fall.  Enjoy my fave!

Okay, let's take a moment to be honest. So, what is it about yourself, that you lack confidence in? Is it your hair? Your skin? Your pinky toe? Yeah, I know, it's a touchy subject but it's time to do something about it.

During last week's  Pillow Talk, we slightly touched on the topic of insecurities.  I shared with you how insecure I am about my lips, but was recently inspired to embrace it.  Today, I will share three ways that is helping me embrace my insecurities confidently.  The ultimate goal is to project my beauty in a way that will influence me to remove my mask of embarrassment.   Let's begin.


In my opinion, I feel that one of the biggest reasons why our insecurities affect us is because we tend to ignore them.  I get it, you may have been teased or the attention that you may receive was negative, but you shouldn't ignore it.  My granny often states that, "weeds will ruin your garden if left untended".  In other words, ignoring your insecurity may help you temporarily get by, but guess what, it's a problem that will still exist, if not handled.


Try drawing attention to your insecurity.  Making yourself uncomfortable will ultimately allow help you become more comfortable.  For example,  I have no booty at all, trust me, when I say, none, none lol... It bothers me at times, when the media boasts about big butts, but I just live with it.  While trying on clothes, one thing I would do is joke about my butt.  With my lips, I'll wear a bomb lip color to get compliments.



Buttttttt....I understand that some insecurities are not that easy to comfortably draw attention to.  And I assure you, I get how sensitive it may be.  All the attention I received as child after my lip surgery was the worst.  Even now when someone asks about my lip, I feel some type of way.  Often times, my lips even swell (why I don't know), but during those times, I feel the most insecure.  But I found it helpful to not bring any attention to my face.



Find a way to readjust the focus on something else, like this funky blazer.  For example, when I worked in retail, I met so many women who were uncomfortable with parts of their body.  Women with a big busts wanted tops that didn't show too much cleavage, women with big butts wanted to find bottoms that didn't fit too tight.  Then there were taller women who didn't want having long legs as a factor so wearing a long flowing skirt were the main attraction and so forth and so on.  You get my point.

Ultimately all of these women received unwanted attention, but found ways to be more comfortable with their body by adjusting the focus.



No matter what your insecurity may be, you are beautiful.  The media makes it seem as if we must look a certain way to be beautiful.  I know I don't look like 99.9% of the women I see on social media, television or magazines, but it doesn't define who I am.  To ensure that I don't get caught up with the madness, I stopped comparing myself.  There's something about me that is amazing and I want to show that girl off that's on the inside on the outside.



Project your beauty!  Find that one thing that you like about yourself sooo much and show it off.  I have a really cool sense of style, despite not having a big butt and being shaped like a toothbrush (lol), my style is pretty dope ( I think so at least).  Just knowing that my style separates me, makes me so confident.  When I receive positive feedback, I'm influenced to want to show my style off even more.

Believe it or not, there is a part of me that is insecure.  I'm also quite shy.  Some may disagree, as I tend to talk the head off of a fly, but it's true.  The cool thing is that I'm not afraid to admit it, but on the contrary it still exists.

So let's talk about insecurities:

As a child, I was a bit reckless lol.  As a result, I ended up with a busted lip, after a small accident. The doctors proclaimed that my lips would be normal after surgery. But I have a small "bump", where the operation was performed.  I was teased a bit and in fact created the habit of biting or hiding my lip when close to someone.  It may seem minor, but it's one of my insecurities.

Recently, while getting lost in New York, my Uber driver and I were talking about my passions and goals.  Upon our discussion, I was inspired to find a way to embrace my insecurities.  I know, I know, how could a 18 minute ride, become so inspirational?

Here's how:

No matter who you are, there is something about yourself that you may not like, or that you feel that you aren't confident about.  Usually, we try and hide our "flaws".  We vocally talk about how we embrace them, but don't necessarily show it.

With that being said, I was inspired to embrace my insecurities by projecting my beauty in a way that will influence me to remove my mask of embarrassment.  But how?

The other day, my guy told me I was borderline, "Passive Aggressive".  (spits out drink)... Wait, what? Girl, yes.  But what's crazy, is that in my head, I'm the coolest person in this world. lol   Maybe it's the Narcissist in me but I understand that even cool people have strong personality traits. I admit, hearing those comments caused me to display even more aggression but his words, also inspired this post.


The best way for me to describe Passive Aggressiveness is that, it is a way to intentionally make a specific statement in an indirect way.  Those who possess this trait, tend to behave or react a certain way to a situation (stimulus) to grasp one's attention or to make a point. I'll use myself as an example, (uh oh, I hope I don't get myself in trouble).

When someone says something I don't like, I can respond a bit sarcastically (it's a defense mechanism- I'm working on it guys, sheesh). Other times I'll keep silent and act like I didn't hear them or I'll snap back with one word responses such as, "okay".  This may continue with me doing little stuff to annoy the person who offended me or avoid  (or procrastinate) doing things they may have asked me to do.  I'll stop there, cause now I'm freaking myself out (I'm annoying lol).


Overall, my personal style screams Passive Aggression.  When I put on an outfit, the ultimate goal is to grasp your attention by making a statement without actually saying a word to you.  Whether, it's my chunky feet, squeezed into heels; a thought provoking, graphic tee; my bushy fro or even by showing some skin in my distressed jeans- my outfit some way, some how should speak to you.

Oooooohhh It's August and you know what that means?   Fall is just around the corner.  I know, who really wants to kiss Summer goodbye?  But, with the treacherous heats and bi-polar weather, I actually can wait to revisit again next year.

Any whoooo...I'm super excited that it's August, as it will begin a new segment of The Stylish Ego. This month is inspired by Personality Psychology.  People are very interesting and I feel we all have split personalities lol, but it's nothing to be ashamed of.  In fact, each post will present a challenge, to help empower you to embrace your personality.
